Boruto: Naruto Next Generations is a Japanese manga series that acts as both a sequel and spin-off to Naruto. Initially written by Ukyō Kodachi with Masashi Kishimoto as the editorial supervisor, the manga was illustrated by Mikio Ikemoto. It started serialization in Weekly Shōnen Jump in May 2016 before moving to V Jump in 2019. In November 2020, Kishimoto took over as the writer. The series’ first part ended in April 2023, with a second part, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, starting in August 2023.
The story focuses on Boruto Uzumaki, the son of Naruto, the Seventh Hokage, and his journey as a ninja. Boruto initially struggles with his father’s focus on the village over family but soon becomes part of a ninja team alongside Sarada Uchiha and Mitsuki. The plot delves into Boruto’s training under Sasuke Uchiha and his battles against the Otsutsuki clan. The story also introduces Kawaki, a key character with connections to the Karma mark, which plays a central role in the plot.
The manga touches on themes of legacy, power struggles, and dark future predictions, with the relationship between Boruto and Kawaki being a key focus. The anime adaptation, which aired from 2017 to 2023, served as a prequel to the manga and featured a more light-hearted tone compared to the darker manga storyline. A second part of the anime is currently in development.
